About Family Connects Greenville
Family Connects Greenville is a partnership between SC DHEC and Greenville First Steps. The program supports parents by linking DHEC nurses, community resources, and families. Our goal is to connect new parents with resources that support newborns and their families.
How does the connection occur?
A Family Connects Greenville team member visits families in the hospital and has a brief check-in. If families are interested, a home visit is scheduled to occur in the following 3 or 4 weeks.
How can Family Connects help my family?
The Family Connects curriculum provides a framework for families to get the right help at the right time. Family Connects home visits work to help parents who have questions or want to know where to go to get additional resources or supports.

- Screen mom for Postpartum Depression
- Talk about childcare options
- Help families return to work
- Help establish home routines
- Establish safe sleeping environments

How It Works
Parents
The first few days and weeks home with a new baby can be a challenging time for all families, and research indicates that more than 90 percent of families can use some additional support.
Family Connects Greenville nurses are trained to answer your questions and connect you with the support you need. The program is simple — a registered nurse comes to visit around 3 weeks to check on mom, baby, and the whole family. There is no cost, and anyone can participate.

As the program continues to grow, and the needs of the parents become more clear- we are seeking referral partners that can be resources for our families. If you know of resources, partners, organizations that can help families, let us know so we can share those connects with families.
Nurse Supports
Our nurse team is always seeking innovative and cost effective ways to support families. Donations of books, gently used clothing, bus tickets, and other resources provide our nurses with a host of resources to help when needs are identified. If you know of ways to help nurses with their clients, please let us know.
Community Advisory Board
The Family Connects community advisory board meets regularly to help nurses identify community partners and resources to assist families with identified needs, and to help expand Family Connects impact beyond Greenville County. If you are interested in joining the Community Advisory Board, please let us know.
